
Residents and visitors will soon notice new signs in City parks and bus shelters that request individuals to refrain from smoking in those sites. Last week, City Council gave the go ahead on parks and bus shelters, following an initial pilot that placed the signs in playgrounds first.

The Partnership for a Healthier Alexandria honored three students from Cora Kelly Elementary School for winning the “Say NO to 2nd Hand Smoke” poster competition on Tuesday, March 23rd at Alexandria City Council’s meeting.
The Transportation Commission has formed a subcommittee to consider passing a complete streets resolution or ordinance that encourages complete streets consideration when doing roadway renovations. The issue will be up for consideration at their meeting on March 3rd.
Environmental Health Work Group Chair, Richard Merrit, and Partnership Chair, the Honorable Marian Van Landingham, wrote a letter on behalf of the Partnership to the Transportation Commission and City Council requesting that they support VDOT alternatives that does not sacrifice land from the Winkler Preserve.
