April is Volunteer Appreciation Month -- A Big THANK YOU to our Kick Butts Day Volunteers!

SAPCA has over 100 members and community partners. Our work would truly not be possible without all of their leadership, support, and participation. April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and this month we want to say a BIG THANK YOU to all of our volunteers and partners for ALL that they do. In recognition of Volunteer Appreciation Month, we would like to highlight the work of our Kick Butts Day Volunteers. These 35 Alexandria youth, supported by adults, conducted Operation Storefront, where they filled out surveys on the amount of tobacco advertising in over 60 local stores for Kick Butts Day.

The Arlington Ready Coalition presented SAPCA with a certificate of appreciation, on behalf of the Community Coalitions of Virginia, to recognize SAPCA's achievements toward improving underage drinking laws in the state of Virginia. Based on SAPCA's recommendations, Delegate Charniele Herring sponsored a bill, strengthening the language in the Code of Virginia relating to providing alcohol to minors. The new wording made the "Social Host" law more enforceable in Virginia. It holds adults accountable for willfully contributing to the provision of alcohol to all underage consumers.
