When was SAPCA founded?

A group comprised of City staff, parents, businesses and community leaders first met in 2007 to explore the idea of establishing a broad-based community coalition that would focus on preventing underage substance abuse.  After conducting research that demonstrated that too many youth in Alexandria were using alcohol and drugs, the group formalized its structure in 2008 and that same year, received a $625,000 Drug-Free Communities grant. This grant enabled SAPCA to hire a coordinator and implement the environmental strategies in its strategic plan from 2008 - 2013. SAPCA was awarded this grant again in 2013, providing an additional $625,000 to continue SAPCA's work.
